If you are planning your next visit to Barcelona in Spain, you have certainly put to your list the visit of the Ramblas, the Sagrada Familia, etc. But did you take care to include a visit to Montserrat? If not, well I strongly advise you!!!
Montserrat is located about 1 hour by train from Barcelona (60 km from Barcelona). At the base, it is a mountainous massif formed of limestone, quartz and slate. Each year more than 2.5 million people will visit Montserrat.
In addition to being known for its magnificent scenery, the place is known for its Benedictine monastery. The first building goes back as far as the year 1025. Still today, 80 Benedictine monks live in these places. Montserrat is considered a high place of Catalan and Spanish Catholicism. Among other things, people pray to the Black Virgin (Moreneta) of Montserrat.
