Whether you speak French or English, you will certainly hear one day about the ‘ strip ‘. But what is the Strip? Where’s the Strip?
LAS Vegas Strip
In fact, the Strip is a section of Las Vegas Boulevard (also known as U.S. Highway 91) and extends for nearly 7 km. We find in this section of Las Vegas Boulevard that one name Strip the largest hotels and Casinos in the world. Among other names, you will have heard the Bellagio, the Ceasar Palace, the Luxor, the palms, etc. In fact, the Strip counts 18 of the 25 biggest hotels (in terms of rooms) of the world!! The Strip extends from the stratosphere to Mandalay Bay.
What are the hotels on the Strip in Las Vegas? Here they are.
A Little history
The first casino has been built on what is today the Las Vegas Strip is the El Rancho Vegas (1941), it had then 63 rooms (phew one is far from the hotels nowadays). This casino hotel existed 20 years before it was destroyed by a fire in 1960. A second hotel was born, the Hotel Last Frontier (1942) and the Flamingo followed in 1946.
In 1968, the hotel Flamingo was used to train employees of the future International Hotel which, at its opening in 1969 with its 1512 rooms, would become the largest hotel in the world!!! Today this hotel still exists, it is the Las Vegas Hilton but it has been delighted its title!
Everyone has already seen the sign “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” in a movie. Well, it’s located on the Strip. It was created in 1959 by Betty Willis.
Be aware that it is strongly recommended to take a hotel on the Strip. If you go too far away, you will have to take the car to get to the largest casino and parking (parking) is hard to find. Some more remote hotels offer shuttle services on the other hand… it’s up to you. Personally, I’d rather walk.
