Are you under the impression that youth hostels (also called Hostel) are reserved only for young people? Well no!! Be aware that in the vast majority of cases, they are permitted for all (any age, for families, etc.). In fact, the majority of the time the only difference is that an additional rebate can be offered to young people. I think there are reasons why you should consider them on your next trip.
Reason 1: Very inexpensive
If for you, the hotel room is only used to come and sleep (so you will only be there for a few hours), you might consider the youth hostels. If you are in the habit of travelling alone, it is even more for you. In fact, at two or more, sometimes the price of the room can be amortized. But when you travel alone, you have to amortize this expense that, in many cities, is very high.
Reason 2: Installation to reduce costs
Most of the time the hostels will provide you with equipped kitchens. So again, in order to reduce costs and not always be in restaurants, you will enjoy their facilities, they provide everything!!
Reason 3: Additional Services
Given that the main clientele that caters to youth hostels are young people and therefore a little less fortunate, many free (or almost) services are available. Indeed, in general in addition to the kitchens, it is not uncommon to count on free lunch, free internet hours and a travel advice service (eg: they organize cheap excursions but very good quality).
Reason 4: Meet people from all over!!
The reasons could still be many but I would hate to finish without mentioning the opportunity to meet people from all over the place. If you want to make contacts for an upcoming trip to New Zealand or you make partners to continue the trip, again you should consider the youth hostels. Even if we are more solitary in nature, we will certainly have the opportunity to chat a few words. We do not all speak the same language (and it is too comic sometimes, we can find in the same room a French, an Australian, a Danish and a Canadian) but we all have a passion for travel.
That’s enough for today. I hope I have given you the taste to at least consider this option. Other blogs will come in which I’ll continue to demystify this style of habitation. I mean it, it’s not for everyone. On the other hand, I think some people have prejudices and they would be more interested in trying out hostels.
